2017-7-24€HMW will take its shape back, slides over objects better and doesnt rattle. Most skid plates UHMW or aluminum will have limited access while the skid plate is installed, you dont want a bunch of access holes in your skid plate to snag on everything.

A few years ago when I lived in S/E Arizona, near the Mexican border, I noticed that the U.S. Border Patrols 4x4 vehicles had aluminum skid plates and that seemed to work out just fine.

2009-8-10€luminum regardless of grade is gonna be 2-3x more expensive though no matter what grade you get. Personally Id either do straight AR plate with no aluminum or UHMW, or thinner AR with UHMW. I wouldnt use aluminum for skids at all, partially because of the low strength, but also because its soft and doesnt like to slide over things as easily.
UHMW or HDPE both are awesome material for skids. They can take any impact you can throw at them, slide over rocks where aluminum will dent and stop you dead when they grab on to granite. 3/8 thick is all you will need for floors and 1/4 works fine for stick stoppers. The poly skids dont rattle near as bad as aluminum skids do.

2018-4-4€oined Feb 3, 2017. . 87 Posts. #4 Aug 22, 2017. Check out Factory UTV as their UHMW skids are 2nd to none and are much stronger and lighter than aluminum. Its tried and tested in King of the Hammers and Baja 1000 races. Ill be getting the 1/2 here shortly and installing with rivnuts.

Im eager to see how much it helps before I drop a bunch of coin on skid plates. 2015-3-2€ believe xrw racing makes some too but I dont think they are as thick as the ones from Iron Baltic. I would prefer these over aluminum and day, slightly lighter, slide better, dont bend and they stay black if you scratch them. When I got the General I went with the Factory UTV 1/2 inch UHMW skid plate after doing much research. I like the UHMW skid plate much better than the aluminum ones I had on the ranger.
